Like many PC users, I cut my teeth on Lotus 1-2-3. Apart from the
issues surrounding the "look and feel" its menu structure, 123's use
of the slash "/" key to access the menu has always seemed intuitive
and natural, especially as opposed to the many programs which use
CUA alt-key menus, which force you to use finger-twisting gymnastics
to get the job done.
In order to make alt-key menus a little more tolerable, I wrote
ALTSLASH.COM. Loaded just before your application, ALTSLASH.COM will
make the "/" key another alt key, and also make it sticky: the alt
shift state will stay in effect until a 2nd key has been pressed.
Just tap the "/" key once, and make your menu selection. No more
finger gymnastics! Pressing the ctrl, alt, left-shift, or
right-shift key before "/" will bypass the sticky-alt routines, so
hitting shift-"/" yields a nice "?", as you would expect. Hitting
"/" twice will enter a normal "/" character.
This ain't shareware, folks, it's *free*. Hope you like it!
